What is a Green Card?

A Green Card is a special Permanent Resident Card issued by the US State Department to an immigrant-serving as an official permanent permit to live, work and study in the United States of America. Normally, the card is being renewed 10 years from the issuance date.

What are the benefits of having a US Green Card?

Having a Green Cards gives you to following rights in the US:

What is the DV Lottery Program?

The DV Lottery program, officially known as the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is the Green Card Lottery program where qualified candidates from selected countries of the world are issued Green Cards to confirm their permanent resident status of living, working, and studying in the United States with their families.

Who is eligible for the Green Card Lottery?

The following are eligible to apply:

  • Citizens from eligible countries. Note, Eligible countries are selected countries that have low immigration status in the USA
  • To be eligible, you must at least have a high school or secondary school education.
  • Having work experience in the relevant field is also required

  • Then, you will be required to provide biographical information. If you are married, you’d provide that of your spouse and your children even if they are not moving with you to the US

What maximum of times can I apply?

You can only submit your application once within the applicable year. But, you are permitted to apply every year.

Is it possible for my application to be disqualified?

Absolutely! Your application can be disqualified if it is not in total compliance with requirements as stipulated by the US government. However, note that you won’t be notified by the US authorities if your application is ever disqualified. Therefore, you need to pass through USAGCO so as to avoid such unfortunate scenarios. How are the Green Card Lottery winners selected?

The winners are randomly selected by a computer algorithm as stipulated by the US State Department. Kindly check the US State Department website regularly to see if you are a winner. At USAGCO, we also notify our clients if they won.

Can my spouse apply for the Green Card Lottery separately?

Yes, absolutely, he/she can apply separately. If any of you wins, the other can then apply for the Green Card Visa as a dependent.

My Country is not eligible for the DV Lottery program, why is that?

Your country is not eligible for the Green Card Program because it’s among the high admission stream which means, over 50,000 candidates from your country had already obtained an immigrant status within the last 5 years. Eligible countries are only countries with low immigration status.

Does being a recipient of a Green Card mean I’m now a US Citizen?

Absolutely No. Having a Green Card is a sign that you can permanently live, work or study in the USA. It’s your choice if you want to pursue US citizenship later on through naturalization.

What are the ways to obtain a U.S. Permanent Residency Status?

You can obtain a US Permanent Residency Status through the following:

  • Sponsorship from family members
  • Job Offers
  • Political Asylum/Refugee
  • Diversity Visa (DV) program

Is my Green Card guaranteed if I register with USAGCO?
