If you’ve been dreaming of starting a new life and living and working in the United States, then The Green Card Lottery – officially called the Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery Program – is your chance. Each and every year (since the fiscal year 1994), the United States government has been issuing green cards to up to 55,000 lucky winners through the lottery system.

The drawing, which takes place via a randomized computer drawing, randomly selects 50,000 applicants who applied from a specific list of countries, and these men and women are then granted a green card which gives them legal rights to live and work in the United States, even without the need to ever leave the country or renew a visa! Green card lottery winners also receive other benefits that are naturally granted to the citizens of the United States, such as health coverage, education, and other benefits. With that in mind, surely you’re wondering when the next green card lottery dates will be. Let’s review.

Is the 2020 Green Card Lottery Dates Still Open?

According to the U.S. Department of State’s official website, the deadline for application for the DV-2020 (which stands for “Diversity Visa” 2020) has already passed. The DV-2020 green card lottery registration dates were between October 3, 2018, and November 3, 2018. However, you can still apply for the DV-2021, which we provide the lottery dates for below (if you already applied to the DV-2020, you should keep your confirmation number until at least September 30, 2020, since new lottery winners are sometimes selected at later dates if initial winning applications fall through for any reason).

Applying for the DV-2021: What Are The 2021 Green Card Lottery Dates?

If you missed the deadline to apply for the DV-2020, the great news is that you can still apply for the DV-2021! The green card lottery dates for the DV-2021 are as follows:

In order to guarantee your submission in the 2021 Green Card Lottery, you must fill out and submit your completed DV-2021 application, along with a current photo, no later than October 15, 2019. The photo you submit must meet the requirements as outlined by the U.S. government authorities.

Also, it is important to keep in mind that you must live in a qualifying country. If you live in a country that is not included in the United States’ list, your application is at risk of not being accepted. There you have it. If you want the chance to win a permanent residency to the United States, then make sure you remember the green card lottery dates provided above and apply in a timely manner. Good luck!
